Advanced Polish (Slavic 115A)

Semester:
Fall
Offered:
2011

Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures, UC Berkeley

materials: textbook Hurra! Po polsku 2; supplemental materials from other books and my own handouts

On this level, I started using the Library of Foreign Language Film Clips accessible on-line in the Berkeley Language Center. This is a very useful source of natural spoken language. I used them as homework assignments, to assure additional exposure to the language outside the classroom. Importantly, the clips exposed students to spoken language other than mine, which is often an issue when students take classes with the same instructor. Students received questions to each clip, which required them to listen to the conversations carefully.

As a final project, students decided to make a video in Polish. They wrote the script based on topic that they learned this semester and recorded it.
