Introduction to Literary Theory and Criticism

Semester:
Fall
Offered:
2016

This course is an inquiry into the purposes, objects, and methods of literary studies (with emphasis on the plural forms of each of those three terms). Why do we read literature? What constitutes the literary? And how do we do literary study? Over the course of the semester, we will complicate and advance these questions through readings of primary literary texts and foundational works of literary theory and criticism.
