HE Gang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Technology and Society at Stony Brook University, as well as a Visiting Faculty Affiliate in the China Energy Group at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory. His work focuses on energy modeling, energy economics, energy and climate policy, energy and environment, domestic coal and power sectors and their key role in both the global energy supply and in international climate policy framework. He also studies other interdisciplinary aspects of global climate change and the development of lower-carbon energy sources.
He was a research associate with Stanford University's Program on Energy and Sustainable Development (PESD) from 2008 to 2010. Prior to PESD, he was with the World Resources Institute (WRI) as a Cynthia Helms Fellow. He has also worked for the Global Roundtable on Climate Change of the Earth Institute at Columbia University. He has been a visiting scholar at UC Berkeley helping to coordinate the China environment report program. With his extensive experiences both in the U.S. and in China, he shares his expertise and insights on China’s energy and environment challenges in its greatest socio-economic transformation, and China’s growing impact to and rising role in global sustainability in the twenty-first century.
Dr. He has published widely both in the peer reviewed academic journals and public debates, and his research and comments have been coverred or quoted by major news platforms. He has been invited to give a number of talks and presentations to both academic groups, international workshops and the public forums. He was selected as Youth Delegate to UNFCCC CoP11 (2005), Asia 21 Young Leaders (2007), Aspen Environment Forum Scholars (2011), and Young Scholar of Institute for New Economic Thinking (2013).
He received his Ph.D. in Energy and Resources from University of California at Berkeley in 2015. He also holds an M.A. from Columbia University on Climate and Society and a B.S. from Peking University on Geography.
